" KIDS Consortium moves education beyond the classroom as students apply academic knowledge and skills to real community needs.  Working with teachers, schools and communities, we promote a learner-driven process that results in better educated, civic-minded and responsible students". The KIDS Consortium site Community Service is defined as: an activity that engages people in addressing needs of their schools and communities. Community Based Learning is defined as: an approach that enhances the curriculum by using community members and places as resources for learning. Service Learning is defined as: A method of teaching and learning that challenges students to identify, research, propose and implement solutions to real needs in their school or community as part of their curriculum.  Service Learning integrates activity community engagement with academic study .  Academic Integrity, apprentice citizenship and student ownership are the guiding principles of authentic service learning.
