MSAD#71 WEB Tutorial
Installing FirstClass®
The FirstClass® Client is the software you use to manage your MSAD71 mail. The following tutorial provides instructions for installing the client at home.
1. Click on the following link or paste it into the location window of your web browser:
choose the version you wish to install
2. If you already have the FirstClass client installed on your computer and are only upgrading to the latest level, you must first quit the FirstClass client if it is running on your computer. Make certain you exit the program and not just CLOSE it. See Note below***
If you are already using FirstClass and are simply updating your software, you may see a popup window that reads "A Personal Post Office Already Exists", you should click "NO" when prompted "Do you wish to replace...?".
*** It is not sufficient to simply close all of the windows in FirstClass. To quit, right-click on the FirstClass icon on the system tray (next to the clock) of your taskbar. From the menu, choose "exit." Repeat until there are no FirstClass icons on your system tray of your taskbar. See image:
3. Download the client file to your desktop. When the download has completed, minimize your web browser and double-click on the "fc8047us.exe" icon which is on your desktop. This will launch the installer program.
4. At the "Welcome" screen click on "Next". When prompted, choose "Typical Installation".
5. We recommend that you accept the default installation folder to be "Program Files\FirstClass" in the root of your current drive and click on "Next". If you wish, you can use "Browse -- Choose Folder" to change the drive and folder in which it will be placed.
6. Click "Next" once again and the FirstClass Client program files will be installed onto your computer. Once this has completed, click on "Finish".
7. You should notice a new icon on your Desktop named "FirstClass Client."
8. You must first be connected to the Internet prior to logging into the FirstClass Server. You will do this by either logging onto your local Internet Service Provider "ISP" or by using a direct full time network connection that allows you access to the Internet.
9. To log into the FirstClass Client, go to your Desktop and double-click on the "FirstClass Client". The "Login" window will appear.
10. If the "Address" field at the top of the window is not home.fc, click on the arrow and change it to home.fc. Next click on the "Set Up" button. You will only need to enter two fields: your User ID and the "Server". Be sure the "server" is fc.msad71.net. At the top, check the "Connect as": it should say TCP-IP.FCP
11. Type your login name into the "User ID" field of the Login screen and click on "Save". 12. Each subsequent time you launch the FirstClass Client you will need to enter only your password and then click on the "Login" button.
